LOOSE CANON

WHEN REPORTERS BECOME REPORTERS

MONOLOGUE WRITTEN BY CLYDE LEWIS

There was another shooting yesterday. I really don’t want to go into details because it appears this will continue and the more I or anyone else gives it too much attention, the more it seems trite and it encourages more so-called lone wolf’s to commit another heinous crime.

I received an e-mail yesterday, where someone asked me if I was going to do a show about the serial killer in Tampa, Florida. I replied no; sometimes a cigar is just a cigar.

I thought the serial killer story was like any other story where there is a killer involved and I don’t know why this is a national news story. I didn’t see a conspiracy in it, or anything paranormal or off political about it.

I thought that it would play better on local news.

I began to sense something and that is the public is not getting what they want from their information sources and so they are now asking me to talk about these stories and in the process, I am doing the job of “clean up” batter for the external media that is imploding on itself.

The recent effects of the scandalous blackmail and violent culture are now having blow-back in the mainstream media. It appears that news organizations are imploding because those who are paid big money to frame a narrative are now finding out that perhaps they may have a little integrity left and that they are waking up to the fact that they may be contributing to the great wedge that has been placed between the public and their right to know.

News and information content is ubiquitous. We can get instant news from countless sources. In fact, we are learning that most people are getting their news and information from Facebook and so I wonder why the mainstream media is so beside them reporting things that really no one cares about or wants to constantly be told about.

I am learning from my audience is that they are looking for a fresh perspective on what is happening around them. They want another way to look at a story or a subject. It is a glaring fact that the narrative that is being framed by the media is sorely lacking perspective. You see, if we still lived in an age of “public trust” or “public service” journalism we would have that much needed perspective.

Narratives are stories told in social circles that have plotline with good guys and bad guys that performs specific actions and with expected outcomes. Narratives are created in such a way to teach society a lesson or guide the social norms and practices. Much of what you do is based on your framed narrative of reality, every myth you believe and every narrative that you cling to makes up who you are. As a man thinks so he is. What he does with those thoughts is what gives him consequence.

How he reacts in the court of public opinion can really make a lasting impression.

Rather than telling us there’s been another mass shooting at a particular intersection, perhaps the focus should be on what the underlying causes of these shootings are.

Journalists need to be thinking about the impact they can have in helping stir conversation, promoting balanced understanding, and helping the populace form educated opinions.

But as lazy as the mainstream media is, we always see the story turn into another Second Amendment debate.

While many people are very capable of believing a framed narrative of falsehood promoted by a mass media, there are others who question and later reveal that the truth is probably not all that you thought it was.

Many in this psycho circus are left in shock, disbelief and a refusal to accept something other than what they’ve been taught to believe. The media has fallen into this morass of one network promotes one political ideal and another promotes a liberal view when the original purpose of the media was to give a balanced and objective view of what was happening in the world.

If you wanted editorial, if you wanted a more focused view politically, that was left to specialty programming within the news and information source of choice.

Sometimes editorial and opinion inserted into news was often given a disclaimers saying the views expressed were not necessarily those of the company providing the information.

This was because the media had a responsibility to act on behalf of the public trust as a public service and not on behalf of the people who invest or even fund the news organization.

There are a few people in country that are not being fooled. People feel what is happening. People with conscience can sense the overall instability and stratification of society. They know that it is all growing pains of the New World Order. Those who are awake are sensing the events before they become mainstream events and they are calling out the False Flags because they are tire of the inconsistencies.

Using a bit of complexity theory we can say that ones who are “woke” are the butterfly that flaps its wings and they do make an impact from where we sit to the headlines days later. It is important to talk about the collective consciousness and reveal the worries and concerns of the public before the mainstream media filters and sanitizes them.

When I talk about the state of the media, I always remember the satirical and cynical views portrayed in the film, Network. I remember that the movie came out in the Winter of 1976. I actually snuck into the theater at the mall that played second run films - Network was playing at the dollar theaters and I was waiting to see Star Wars.

I was very young then, but I certainly was moved by the character of Howard Beale Played by Peter Finch. Beale had been a top-rated anchor, but his ratings began to slip. One night he was on the air and said to his audience that after so many years of broadcasting he was leaving the air because of poor ratings.

So he said that in two weeks time that he was going to do his last show and blow his brains out on the air. He said that should bring up the ratings, he said “a 50 share” easy.

Well, he did his last broadcast and said that his suicide threat was an act or madness. Then as a matter of fact, Beale said “I’ll tell you what happened, I just ran out of bullshit.”

He was fired, but reacted in an unexpected way. After his unorthodox approach proved popular with the nation, he was given his own show on which to rant about hypocrisy and the de-humanization of society. His catchphrase was “We’re mad as hell, and we’re not going to take this anymore.”

There are scenes in the film of random Americans opening their windows and shouting this phrase as loudly as possible. It was clear that he had touched a nerve, so the network gave him his own show and exploited his behavior for ratings.

However as most reporters who go off script or speak against canon or become loose cannons, they wind up dead or framed with some unfounded allegation.

This brings us back to the blackmail culture; the mainstream media has to somehow report about without exposing themselves as hypocrites with a double-standard.

The ghost of Howard Beale appeared to have walked into the bodies of both Fox news Anchors Shepherd Smith and Sean Hannity.

Fox News anchor, Shepard Smith debunked what his own network has called the Hillary Clinton uranium “scandal,” infuriating Fox viewers, some of whom suggested that he ought to work for CNN or MSNBC.

Smith’s critique, which called President Trump’s accusations against Clinton “inaccurate,” was triggered by renewed calls from Republicans on Capitol Hill for a special counsel to investigate Hillary Clinton.

Fox News, along with President Trump and his allies, have been suggesting for months a link between donations to the Clinton Foundation and the approval of a deal by the State Department and the Obama administration allowing a Russian company to purchase a Canada-based mining group called Uranium One with operations in the United States.

Shepard went off script and now those who watch Fox News are dumbfounded as to why.

Meanwhile, Sean Hannity, another anchor at Fox News also seems to have gone rogue. Hannity has accused Smith of being anti-Trump has also been accused of betraying the Fox News sheep by saying that he would stop defending Alabama U.S. Senate candidate Roy Moore and gave him 24 hours to explain what Hannity called “inconsistencies” in his responses to accusations of sexual misconduct with teenage girls when he was in his 30s.

Is this both Shepard Smith and Hannity saying to the viewers “I am mad as hell and I am not going to take this anymore?”

Furthermore, in the book, “Hacks” written by Donna Brazile, we see a well-known political strategist basically uncovering the corruption of the Democratic Party. Brazile has been a Democratic Party operative since the 1980s, working on presidential campaigns ranging from Jesse Jackson’s to Walter Mondale’s, Richard Gephardt’s and Al Gore’s.

Her act of unveiling the true grit of the matter has made her an insurgent in the eyes of the democrat faithful.

In an even more coincidental throwback to Howard Beale, a group of anti–Trump justice warriors urged others to gather together and scream helplessly at the sky on the anniversary of the election of President Trump.

What is happening is either a collective nervous breakdown or that people are just tired of the bullshit.

Free Speech is wonderful, it can enrich and enlighten. Radical speech, rebellious parlance and revolutionary views can be made without losing one’s cool. It is difficult at times. I am not a pro at it and there are times when looking back at heated discussions I should have paused and magnified on a point that was brought up and overlooked.

However, cognitive bias is most certainly clouding our judgment and the idea of feeling betrayed by a new reporter or anyone else in the media is ludicrous.

It is apparent that people feel traumatized and overwhelmed by the media they see every day. Responsible, public service journalism needs to be resurrected so the citizenry can navigate important issues instead of being terrified by the issues.

The mainstream media is heading for rock bottom – they are going to have to change and people are going have to stop allowing for the media to think for them and especially they need to stop viewing their political affiliation as if they were a part of a destructive cult.

Pack Journalism and echo chamber parroting journalism is breeding a sense of like mindedness when it should be allowing for differing opinions to be allowed no matter how uncomfortable they may be.

Always surrounding yourself with like minded people and listening to like minded opinions does nothing for intellectual growth.

It is equally important to emphasize that as the mainstream media of today swings to the right and left, there’s a huge hole in the middle and there are people that want to hear unbiased reporting.

Obviously, people are mad as hell and they appear to not want to take it anymore, but no one is going to respond to a vacuum. There needs to be a better attempt at balanced public dialogue. Without it, the United States is destined to eat itself.

There needs to be real enlightened talk and dialogue. It needs to be supported as a vital resource to the survival of our Republic. It all depends on what we do from a cultural, not a technological point of view. Real conversations are the answer, not better technology.
