6/2/20: REQUIEM FOR RADIO RAHEEM W/ ELIJAH SCHAFFER

Clyde Lewis | June 2, 2020

MONOLOGUE WRITTEN BY CLYDE LEWIS

This morning I was told by my listeners that my radio show’s podcast had been blacked out with black squares on Soundcloud. They are participating in something called Blackout Tuesday. It all started when music producers, Jamila Thomas and Brianna Agyemang declared “#TheShowMustBePaused” on June 1. They both replaced their social media entry with black squares. Many others in the music industry followed suit. Drake, Kevin Hart and Rihanna, began posting images of black screens on their platforms. Blackout Tuesday posts quickly spread beyond the music industry to individual accounts.

Soundcloud, of course, is a platform for independent music artists and so they too participated in the Black Out.

I never understand these internet blackout protests because while people drone on about how free speech rights are being trampled on, their answer is to stifle free speech.

I can imagine many of the rap artists that we share a place with on sound cloud are frustrated because they are not able to express their anger and sorrow for what happened to George Floyd.

The whole mantra of silence is violence means absolutely nothing now and it is counter-intuitive.

I saw a short film by Spike Lee recently called “3 Brothers” where he compared George Floyd’s death to a character named Radio Raheem, a tragic character in his film “Do the Right Thing.”

Raheem carried a huge radio around his Brooklyn Neighborhood playing the song “Fight the Power” by Public Enemy, which also appears in the film’s opening scene.

The lyrics that you hear are:
“Got to give us what we want
Got to give us what we need
Our freedom of speech is freedom of death
We got to fight the powers that be”

Raheem is quiet through most of the film, He lives in harmony with the other black locals, but is at odds with other races primarily due to his loud music.

He becomes a pivotal character in the end and what happens to him is an all too familiar story and is certainly a bit of predictive programming as to where we are today with the death of George Floyd.

I don’t understand why Blackout Tuesday caught on when it is definitely a silencing of free speech, especially when words and opinions on what is happening are so vital in changing hearts and minds.

No matter how many people try to explain why it is happening, it silences those who wish to express what they feel.

It also adds too many of my thoughts on how counter-intuitive measures are actually destroying the peaceful and meaningful aspects of what is supposed to be peaceful assembly.

I was watching CNN this morning and there was a key phrase that was used by a protester to describe what is being felt right now—the protester said that “people are tired of being sick and tired.” There was no mention of George Floyd in the comment and again I know that Floyd’s death was the spark that started the blaze but the anger had been building long before Floyd was killed in Minneapolis.

Things like this uprising are not flukes, they build over time and those who are observant can see a storm brewing long before the lightning strikes and that deluge begins.

This event is so full of psy-op moments that it is hard to keep up with what adds fuel to the ideological fire.

Yes, people were tired of being told to be sick and tired, when many people were running out of food and losing hope. The nonsense of the well off, telling poor America that they were being inconvenienced was not a smart move and no matter where you fall politically, you cannot take away basic comforts from human beings because they become agitated and behave in a survivalist mentality. Those without hope can either become depressed or introverted or they become violent.

Granted, the court of public opinion succumbs to the strategy of tension that creates scapegoats and an us against them against the police, which whether we choose to accept it or not, hardens the resolve of those who wish to see gun control and police state controls in this country.

We are told that the result of perceived and real police brutality is peaceful and meaningful protest, however what we see is far from peaceful and is tantamount to insurrection.

Peaceful protesters who are seen pummeling people and destroying property is highly and obviously lacking any truth now. The media touting the mob as “peaceful protesters” desirous of “social justice,” should not include beating elderly people protecting their business or watching in horror as a city is burned to the ground.

The irony of hearing chants saying “no justice no peace” illustrates my point. The protesters most certainly feel as though there is no justice and so their mantra is to forfeit peace in order to show their anger about inalienable rights being violated.

They are sick of being sick and tired, they are sick of the intimidation, they are pleading for freedom, but will go back to the habits of hashstag virtue signaling when they are bored with the peaceful and passive behavior that they have been forced into and they will certainly be reminded when they get back home that they exposed themselves to COVID-19; needless to say, the media has still inserted here and there that the protesters and the mob are violating social distancing.

At this point, who really cares?

The media certainly now feels that they can act as a critical parent in all of this but as the violence unfolds and now we see that gun violence has erupted in the cities they have plenty of causes to upend and agendas to push in order to reinforce curfews and police state target softening.

The death of George Floyd was a great tragedy, and the vast majority of Americans agree that we do not want to see that sort of police brutality in our nation, and so this should actually be a moment that brings our country together.  But instead, America is being torn apart.

The media has not even bothered to ask the hard questions about who or what is behind the violence and the criminal activity that has happened.

Nonetheless we have been told to brace ourselves for more rioting, looting and civil unrest in the days ahead.

The protests against police brutality have been hijacked by sinister forces, and they are attempting to channel the outrage over George Floyd’s death in a very violent direction.

As I have said from the beginning, the peaceful protests are one thing but the various psychological blows from a murder of a man by police in broad daylight triggers the anger.

It is just like the final scenes from Spike Lee’s “Do the Right Thing” there is no reason for the violence it just happens because tensions build and an element that is well organized see a moment to exploit an insurrection.

As we all know, plenty of good people make bad choices, but the media makes both the police and the victim political villains.

This is how it works you know, the police do their jobs, and mistakes are made, intentional brutality leads to murder, the person on the wrong end is a victim in both cases, and the media creates dialogue that make both victim and policeman villains in all cases.

The people who protest in the streets, and the fodder that produces extreme opinions on talk radio and in other forums is the result of pack journalism.

For a lot of people, the phrase pack journalism is an unfamiliar term. But it is time to know what the definition is and what it is doing to us and the crowd think. Pack journalism is a phenomenon by which large groups of reporters from different media outlets collaborate to cover the same story. They cite or draw from the same sources, simultaneously, with the same purpose and employing the same methods pushing the same agendas or creating combative attitudes that cause a reaction and shape public opinion.

Pack journalism has become incorporated into conventional political journalism. This pack-style of news coverage leads to the agenda setting of journalism, which, in turn, leads to “mainstream pack journalism”. The problem here is that pack journalism is considered not only erroneous and inefficient, but also unethical.

Pack journalism is often times the real villain, turning trivial news stories into national concerns. It inflicts short-term negative outcomes on the general public in that when a mass of pack journalists cover a news story they can inadvertently create an atmosphere of helplessness and conformity. They also can ramp up something trivial and make it a national crisis.

It can be intrusive and fatal—many times I have heard that the media is just trying to get out the protesters message – but is quite odd how in this civil upheaval the media is being attacked by both the mob and the police.

The Radio Television Digital News Association (RTDNA) said it has tallied more than 60 incidents in which journalists covering demonstrations over death of George Floyd during the course of his arrest by Minneapolis police were attacked, arrested or harassed by protesters or police in the past 48 hours alone.

The mob knows that the media is no longer their ally and they are not going to play by any rules because they know that it is a free for all in urban warfare.

It is domestic terrorism without a face and it continues because it is needed to harden the resolve of those who believe in more government. There are those in power that believe that we are our own worst enemy.

I keep harkening back to what was said by New York City Commissioner for Intelligence and Counterterrorism, John Miller said about how this civil upheaval has been in the planning for months.

He said that “certain anarchist groups” were making preparations for “violent interactions with police” before protests in the city even began.

Before the protests began,” Miller said, “organizers of certain anarchist groups set out to raise bail money and people who would be responsible to be raising bail money, they set out to recruit medics and medical teams with gear to deploy in anticipation of violent interactions with police.”

And once the protests started, these groups used “a complex network of bicycle scouts” to direct rioters to locations where police officers would not be present.

These are not just mindless angry mobs. They are being directed with a purpose, and that is very alarming. As I said from the beginning – this whole thing was set up as an insurrection.

In Chicago, Mayor Lori Lightfoot has publicly acknowledged that there has been “an organized effort” to turn the protests over George Floyd’s death “into something violent” in her city.

Law enforcement authorities in Minnesota have discovered “several caches of flammable materials” that were obviously intended to be used for rioting.

And in several other cities around the nation, law enforcement authorities have found bricks staged at or near protest sites.

Kansas City police officers found bricks and rocks staged near protest sites around the city, stoking concerns that individuals or groups had pre-planned looting and destruction that hit the city over the weekend.

And in Baltimore, law enforcement officials were racing to dismantle “mounds of bricks and bottles” that had been staged in downtown Baltimore.

Similarly, in New York City, video captured the moment rioters in Manhattan chanced upon a cache of bricks between St. Marks Place and Seventh Street in the East Village on Sunday evening, though no construction site appeared to be nearby.

Even down in Texas, “a large pile of bricks” was stacked up in front of the courthouse in Dallas and huge stacks of bricks were pre-staged right along a path that protesters would be taking in Frisco.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Phot8P4Mg7c

This cannot be a coincidence.

The fact that huge piles of pre-staged bricks are suddenly showing up at protest locations all over America indicates a level of planning and coordination at a very high level. Obviously we are dealing with something that is far more complex than just a few thousand angry people letting off some steam.

With the U.S. economy in deep disarray and with a presidential election coming up in November, anger and frustration are likely to remain at very high levels in the U.S. throughout the summer, and that will give those that are organizing these efforts more opportunities to promote violence.

Needless to say, the lawlessness that we are witnessing in the streets of our major cities is greatly alarming millions of ordinary Americans, and gun sales are going through the roof.

The thin veneer of civilization that we all take for granted on a daily basis is disappearing, and a lot of people believe that a lot more civil unrest is ahead.

The plan to divide us with strategies of tension has worked and now we can see that this has tripped a response. Now we have to wait for the ripple effect and the inevitability of continued retaliation and copycat criminality.

The mob sees the rule of law irrelevant and the ideas of free speech, right to bear arms, the right of unlawful search and seizure and the right to due process are no longer in the picture as the mob rule mentality has set into the hearts of the people.

A measure of the decline of the rule of law can easily be pointed out using many examples, It begins with our major political parties, there are those that believe that the vote is going to change things, and even though we keep hearing about change the way we treat each other still remains the same.

We have had these discussions before when President Obama was at the helm and they only intensified the moment it was announced that Donald Trump was going to occupy the White House.

It can be said that since the 9/11 attacks we have seen the decline of the rule of law in this country. From Bush to Trump, we have not had a president that impresses us with the ability to heal hearts and minds.

You can take away all of the lofty propaganda about the political parties and their candidates – the have managed to forfeit the rule of law on a whim and with the recent example of how Governors operate their states you are looking at future candidates that hold no value in treating human beings with dignity.

All of the governors you are seeing on TV basking in the glory of their handling of COVID-19 will one day want to run for president –and the people will forgive and forget.

This is why we are seeing the riots – no one is forgiving, no one is forgetting.

The lack of due process and fair trials in this country are another reason we are seeing the despair and agitation. This subject always gets an arousing reaction from people who think that demanding due process is supporting the continued criminality that now appears to be running rampant right now.

Extrajudicial executions are arguably one of the reasons why we are seeing riots and division in our country today. We are in an escalating active phase of a pseudo revolution now, and I put it in those terms because people really are not aware of what the revolution is about—right now it is about vengeance, and demanding that due process be thwarted because a video says it all – or does it?

The courts will have a final say on that – even in the process, we see that the policeman responsible for the death of George Floyd is being charged with manslaughter. The other officers have not been charged and they all should be investigated for conspiracy to organize an insurrection in the United States.

There is a darker force behind it all and we see that this force wants to see the United States eat itself from within.

State impunity is at the root of the problem of this violence. Mayor Ted Wheeler of Portland, Oregon condemned the violence in his city shortly after the death of George Floyd, and yet months ago that same mayor did nothing when groups like Proud Boys and Antifa used Portland as their testing ground for violence and vandalism – you reap what you sew.

When you give “qualified immunity” to certain individuals whether it be Antifa or any other violent group – you create an environment for this kind of behavior.

We know how this pathology has worked in past with so called lone nut gunman or even mass shooter having a relationship with the FBI or the CIA.

Conspiracy theorist know that a criminal element has always been given Cart Blanche to carry out an act of terror so that we can be reminded why we need stricter laws and the pummeling of civil rights.

I remember back when the movie, Joker, was in theaters. Arthur, the main character was a representation of the darker side to our clown world. While he is on a talk show he goes into a tirade where he says; “Everybody just screams at each other. Nobody’s civil anymore.”

What is most insidious is that everyone can relate to what he is saying –and what we forget is that in that time we watch the moment in the film we are identifying and sympathizing with a psychopath.

The genius is in what is missed – this is how the devil operates. Arthur was just sick and tired of being sick and tired. Arthur’s observation is one of those truisms that’s so true it just slides off the wall, a message that both the left and the right can get behind and use for their own aims.

But again we are shown or a meant to think that he is nothing more than a misunderstood savant. But we cannot forget that he inspires chaos and anarchy—in addition to being a murderer, plain and simple but the movie makes it look like he’s starting a revolution, where the rich are taken down, the poor get everything they need and deserve, and the losers have a chance to become heroes.

Pretty soon everyone wants to feel that power, they want to be a hero just like in the end of “Do the Right Thing” where the misunderstood savant Radio Raheem again becomes the icon for why people become tired of being sick and tired.

Instinct then rules over ideology and an organized effort to exploit pain results in what looks like a civil war.
