It was reported this morning that 40 test monkeys escaped from the Alpha Genesis facility near Yemasee, South Carolina. The company works with monkeys to carry out clinical trials, including brain disease disorder treatments. People were being warned not to interact with the primates but emphasized there was no danger to the public. There is always the fear that we as a nation would be the victims of biological warfare and how easy it would be to carry it out by some accidental release of monkeys infected with an “unknown” pathogen. From a metaphorical perspective, a segment of the American population can be seen as breaking free from the restricting confines of the “New Normal” as we enter into a familiar era of political change.
